Hi everyone, my name is German, and I am a new resident to the sanctuary along with my two sisters Snowflake and Sophia. The three of us were being left outside in a cage with no food, no water, and only a soggy, wet box to sleep in. My new Mumma got a call from the person who was sneaking the 3 of us food and water, and covered our cage with a big blanket to help keep the wind and rain off of us. She also gave us a blanket to snuggle under inside our cage. This person talked to my previous owner and was able to convince her to surrender them to my new Mumma here at the sanctuary. My new Mumma drove 3.5 hours each way to get the 3 of us. My sisters and I were soaking wet because it was pouring outside. We were all really cold too. My new Mumma cranked the heat in her car, dried all of us off, and warmed us up. She also gave us all food and water. We all ate quite a bit, drank a lot and then slept the whole 3.5 hour drive to the sanctuary. Our sanctuary Mumma was impressed that we didn’t have any fleas and that our ears were clean. Although we are all significantly underweight and pretty dehydrated, we aren’t in terrible shape. We all are huge snuggle bugs now.
As for me, I’m glad that I’m here at the sanctuary with my sisters. I’ve recently made some new friends, and I’m starting to finally gain weight. Mumma says that my skin isn’t tenting nearly as much anymore either. I had to get some sub-q fluids a few times, but I’m feeling a lot better now.
After living how the 3 of us lived for a very long time, I’ve noticed that normal ferrets have beds, blankets, hammocks, tunnels, toys to play with, and access to food and water all the time. The ferrets at the sanctuary also aren’t in a cage all the time. The cages are there, and open, but no one is ever locked in them. It’s nice to have space to explore and actually have space to dook and play with my sisters and my new friends. Some of my favorite things include Mumma’s special kibble blend, soupies, big fluffy warm beds, blankets, and tunnels. Thank you so much for reading my story. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Much Love, German
We are a self funded private rescue/sanctuary in New Hampshire. Our current residents come from all over New England. Some came to us sick and old, and others healthy in large groups. We make sure to never separate bonded groups who come in so no one looses who they love.
We go through supplies rapidly with the number of noodles in our care, and finances are always tight. Thank you so much for anything and everything, we couldn’t keep this going without the love and support we get during this time of year from the ferret community. There are about 20 ferrets here that this very well might be their last Christmas, so we make sure everyone gets to play with and enjoy the gifts that are received!
