The Ferret Rescue Society of Ottawa and Area (FRSO) has ben in operation since January of 2002. Since our modest beginnings as the only no kill animal rescue group in the Ottawa area to aid ferrets in need we have grown to cover both Ontario and Quebec spanning nearly 617,000 square miles! We take in personal surrenders, lost or abandoned animals and transfers from Humane Societies across both provinces. Ferrets are rehabilitated and given any medical attention they require. All ferrets who are healthy enough are adopted out into carefully screened new families. Unfortunately, some ferrets due to age, illness or behaviour issues are not easily adoptable and become permanent residents of the shelter. Currently over 50% of our ferrets are seniors or special needs ferrets - unlikely to find forever homes.
We do not receive any government grants and rely solely on donations and money gathered from membership dues, adoptions, product sales and fundraising events.
